Kimmy Hogan Artwork

How would you describe what you do?

I am a digital illustrator with an obsession of flowers and gorgeous pinky, creamy palettes. I create limited edition fine art prints and make everything to order for an array of beautiful customers and stores.

What did you do before this, and what was the turning point in deciding to launch your brand?

In a former life I was a graphic designer with a bachelor of communication design – but I always had my head in the clouds, dreaming of art and home interiors. Once I took the leap into creating artworks I got busy, then just kept getting busier so I kept creating, growing, evolving and absolutely loving the rollercoaster ride along the way.

What inspires your designs, and what is your favourite piece from your latest collection?

Flowers are always my inspiration. I draw flowers constantly and obsessively in my journals – sometimes it’s a flower from life or sometimes it’s something that my hand has just wandered around the page and found. In my latest ‘Petal’ collection my favourite would have to be ‘Petal I’ as I was redrawing the top right flower over and over and somehow accidentally created a love heart shape as the centre of the flower. It was a beautifully wobbly accident which always turns out to be the parts I like the most in my work.

What about your work are you most proud of?

I am really proud that as a digital artist my artwork isn’t computer-generated at all. It is all hand-drawn first in my journals then redrawn with hand-motion on screen resulting in something that is truly from my hand. I paint lots of backgrounds and textures which I photograph and weave into the digital works which gives the artwork soul. I feel proud to be creating art that is truly original.

When you have some downtime away from work, where is your favourite place to go?

I love long beach days in summer with my husband and our three boys. Picnic blankets, café eats, jetty walks, and laying in the shade with nowhere to be.

Do you have a style icon or current muse?

There is never a single icon or muse in my mind – I love and adore Instagram and Pinterest for the constant discoveries of new home interiors or fashion brands. I let it all flow over me but also love to take breaks to allow my mind to completely still before I work on a new collection.

Huge thanks to Kimmy Hogan!
